ABOUT: Check out – Check In
Factory employees were portrayed twice at work. The first time was Friday afternoon when checking out from work (left side). The second time was following early Monday morning when checking in (right side). All portraits are displayed in the same order: Friday left – Monday Right. The number in the images is the workplace identification number of the individual employee. The punch clock in the factory was my artistic starting point, the portraits were the result. The project is a visual investigation, of the life lived in between working shifts. It is an attempt to capture an invisible gap between working shifts. A gap of supposed freedom, joy, and recreation. Before I could study the results of the photoshoots, I naively expected the employees to look rested on Monday morning. But most of the workers seemed exhausted from the past weekend. I learned how much the expectations of freedom affect us. The anticipations of the weekend seem to override the event of the weekend itself.
The project is part of ”Art on working place”, artists invited to make site-specific work, curated by Konstfrämjandet Skåne, Sweden.
